Packing Supplies For When Storing Your Things

When you are putting your belongings into a self-storage unit, you want to store them with care. You are going to want to pack everything, so it will take the movement of being transported without incident. You also want it to be packed in a way that keeps everything in good shape while it is in storage. Here are some tips on choosing packing supplies and other information you should find helpful:

Use Moving Boxes

So many people make the mistake of gathering boxes from behind stores or restaurants, then putting their things in those boxes. There are some big problems with this. A lot of these boxes won't be as sturdy as actual packing boxes. They can end up falling apart under the stress of the moving process or while they are in storage. It's better to use actual packing boxes, such as the ones you can buy from the self-storage facility. These boxes are made for this purpose and will serve your things well. Also, You should stick to two sizes of boxes. This is going to make it easier for you to pack everything in an organized fashion in the unit, and it will help to prevent problems like having a stack topple over.

Use Packing Tape

A lot of people close the boxes by folding the flaps over each other in a way where they stay shut without tape. Some people even put the boxes together this way, so the bottom is also closed without tape. This is very dangerous. Boxes closed in this way can easily collapse and spill all the contents out. Instead, buy actual packing tape, which you can get from the storage facility. Don't try to use tape meant for other jobs, because it can give you issues by not sticking very long. Use the packing tape to seal both the bottom and the top. This is going to give you the strongest box.

Use Packing Materials Correctly

There are so many kinds of packing supplies to choose from. The staff at the self-storage facility should be able to help you determine what types you need. Some types of packing materials include packing paper, bubble wrap, bubble tubes, and packing peanuts, to name a few. You want to use the right material to protect your things, so they are properly protected during the moving process, as well as while they stay in the storage unit.

About Me

Making My Storage Unit Beautiful

After I went to my storage unit a few months ago to retrieve a box that was in storage, I realized that my unit was horribly messy. I couldn't find what I was looking for until I completely emptied out my unit, and then I was disappointed to find it completely crushed underneath some other boxes. I knew that I had to make things right, so I dedicated the next few weekends to organizing my unit. I went through, organized the space, and completely cleaned the unit. It was so nice to be able to find things in the space, feel like it was organized, and enjoy the unit.
